A study proves that curiosity strengthens memory

Researchers have monitored a significant activity in the brain when provoking human curiosity about a specific topic, and the movement includes certain places in the mind that help to strengthen memory.

Two University of California researchers conducted a study of several people, during which they assessed their curiosity about a particular competition in which different questions were asked. The answer to each question was offered 14 seconds after it was asked. The researchers showed the study participants in these seconds a picture of one of the faces unrelated to the topic, then they requested surprising questions about the details of these faces, and they also monitored brain activity during these seconds.

The evaluation of the results showed that remembering the details of the picture was better in the waiting period for the questions that aroused the curiosity of the participants significantly from the items that did not interest them much.

Commenting on the study, the researcher said Matthias Gruber that curiosity puts the human brain in a situation during which it can receive and remember everything, whether it is related to the subject that raises his interest or not.

The researchers monitored activity during periods of curiosity in the reward regions of the brain, which significantly improved the strength of recall.

The results of this study provide an impetus to proceed to amend the teaching methods of dulling materials for students in the future by adopting techniques that arouse the student's curiosity.
